Blog Info

I love Castles, History and Archaeology, If I could have my time again I would train to be a Archaeologist!
I am a keen artist and traveller, I seek adventure however I am also disabled and a dog owner.

So I thought it would be a neat idea to have a blog that I could share some photos of my castle hunting adventures and basic info on these sites from a disabled, dog owning artist!

Cadw Offers Disabled people and there companion Free access to there sites, If you have any problems, attitude or access on this generous offer make sure you contact Cadw so they can improve.

I have only provided basic info as there are enough sites on the net to give you this information.

This Castle Wales Site is brilliant, I have used it time and time again, even writing to the makers to compliment them

Berkeley Castle

There is plenty of parking in a large level site just outside the ticket office
Short walk on a level path in the ticket office / gift shop.
Another short walk into a video room where you can wait for a free guided tour (recommended)
Exceptionally friendly & welcoming staff.
Guide dogs only
benches to sit outside and plenty of modern chairs to sit on in the rooms too
( I took advantage of these many times)
Best Bit - Great Hall, Wine Cellar - However there are so many amazing sections you will be spoilt for choice.
This is a fantastic castle to photograph and sketch, because here are so many sections
There is a Yurt Café for a cuppa on site but I recommend finding somewhere to eat.

Ideal for disabled people as mostly on level but those who can't get up stairs will be limited to the ground floor.

Note that the castle is closed during the winter so check website for more details

Disabled person pays & carer free - I recommend emailing in advance.

There is a lovely church and Dr Jenner's museum all within a short walk
